QUEBEC, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Lucie Safarova became the highest seed to reach the semifinals Friday when she defeated Lauren Davis at the Bell Challenge.
The third-seeded Safarova joined No. 5 seed Eugenie Bouchard, No. 6 Marina Erakovic and unseeded Christina McHale in the semifinals.

Safarova breezed to a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Davis and will meet Bouchard in the semis after Bouchard eliminated No. 2 seed Kristina Mladenovic 6-3, 6-2.
The other two semifinalists had to go three sets to advance. Erakovic defeated Ajia Tomljanovic 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 and McHale ended the run of Polona Hercog 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Hercog had surprised top-seeded Kirsten Flipkens in the first round.
