MLB: Kansas City 4, Detroit 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Kansas City's Salvador Perez blasted a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth inning Saturday and the Royals hung on for a 4-3 win over Detroit.

With the score tied 2-2 in the sixth, Eric Hosmer stroked a leadoff double against Justin Verlander and two outs later Perez belted a 1-0 pitch deep over the left-field fence for a long homer.

Emilio Bonifacio went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Alcides Escobar also drove in a run for Kansas City, which bounced back from a 16-2 thrashing in Friday's three-game series opener.

Wade Davis (7-10) earned the decision with 1 2/3 scoreless relief innings and Greg Holland mopped up for his 39th save.

Verlander (12-11) was tagged with the loss, surrendering four runs on eight hits through seven innings.

Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs, giving him a major league-best 133 RBI, and Prince Fielder added a run-scoring single for the American League Central-leading Tigers.
