ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Colin Cowgill drove in three runs with a second-inning double Thursday and the Los Angeles Angels went on to defeat Tampa Bay 6-2.
Tampa Bay missed a chance to expand its lead in the race for the second wild card spot in the American League. The Rays lead both the New York Yankees and Cleveland by 3 1/2 games.
An RBI single by Josh Hamilton touched off a three-run Los Angeles second that completed the scoring, after which Jerome Williams and three relievers combined to hand the Rays their ninth loss in 12 games.
Williams (6-10) allowed two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 to get the win.
David Price (8-7) took the loss, surrendering six runs on 11 hits in seven frames.
