MLB: New York Yankees 9, Chicago White Sox 1

NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Austin Romine's two-run single highlighted a huge fourth inning Monday that propelled the New York Yankees over the Chicago White Sox 9-1.

Romine's blow came after Mark Reynolds' run-scoring single ignited an eight-run Yankees explosion, during which they sent 13 men to the plate and banged out seven hits.

The Yanks, who came into the contest 3 1/2 games out of an American League wild card spot, won the first of a three-game series.

White Sox starter Jose Quintana (7-5) was saddled with the loss after yielding one run in the first inning preceding the delay, while reliever Dylan Axelrod surrendered all eight New York runs in the fourth.
