Lewis, Pettersen cut into Park's hold on golf's No. 1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Stacy Lewis and Suzann Pettersen pulled closer to world No. 1 Inbee Park in the world women's golf rankings, which were updated Monday.

Pettersen won the LPGA's Safeway Classic Presented by Coca-Cola by shooting a 5-under-par 67 in Sunday's final round in Portland, Ore. Her 72-hole total was 20-under 268. Lewis finished second, two strokes off the lead. Park didn't enter the tournament due to illness.

Park has a solid hold on the top spot but Lewis gained 0.20 points on her rankings average and Pettersen 0.64 points, cutting into the lead somewhat.

The changes in the Top 10 were at the bottom of the list where four players are within 0.18 points of each other.

Feng Shanshan and Catriona Matthew each gain one spot this week to eighth and ninth, respectively, in the rankings. I.K. Kim falls from No. 8 to 10th. No. 7-ranked Lydia Ko has a rankings points average of 5.80 and Kim comes in at 5.62.

The LKPGA is off this week before heading to France for the Evian Championship, the fifth major of women's golf this year.
