SANDY, Utah, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Kyle Beckerman notched a pair of goals Saturday and Real Salt Lake improved on the best record in the MLS with a 4-0 spanking of Columbus.
Devon Sandoval and Luis Gil also scored for RSL (13-8-6), which -- after producing just one point in two road matches -- returned home for a one-sided victory.
The triumph gave Salt Lake 46 points, four more than Eastern Conference-leading Montreal, and five more than second-place Los Angeles in the West.
Columbus (8-12-5) saw its two-game winning streak snapped.
