The starter for the 2013 American League All-Star team faced NL All-Star counterpart Matt Harvey of the Mets to begin Saturday's game -- the first time that has happened in baseball history.

Scherzer's two-bagger in the second inning broke a scoreless tie while Austin Jackson and Don Kelly each added an RBI for the Mets.

Jose Alvarez and Jose Veras combined for two scoreless innings and Joaquin Benoit racked up his 17th save as American League Central-leading Detroit clinched its three-game series.

Harvey (9-5) was lit up for 13 hits over 6 2/3 innings, yielding two runs. He didn't allow a walk and struck out four.
