CINCINNATI, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Mat Latos pitched eight strong innings and Shin-Soo Choo scored the game-winner on a wild pitch Thursday in the Cincinnati Reds' 2-1 win over Arizona.
Latos (13-4) allowed five hits, struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
Arizona starter Trevor Cahill stuck out seven and gave up four hits, but also walked four and uncorked three wild pitches. Two of the wild pitches led to the first Cincinnati run.
Choo opened the Reds' third with a single and Cahill followed with a strikeout. But while walking Joey Votto, Cahill had two wild pitches that allowed Choo to reach third. He scored from there on a Brandon Phillips groundout.
The Diamonds grouped three of their five hits off Latos in the fourth inning. Aaron Hill singled in Adam Eaton to tie the score 1-1.
Eury De La Rosa (0-1) replaced Cahill in the eighth and Choo greeted him with a single. Todd Frazier reached on an error by De Le Rosa with Choo advancing to third. Votto worked a walk, with the final pitch way inside and getting past catcher Wil Nieves for a wild pitch that allowed Choo to score the final run.
Sam LeCure pitched the ninth and earned his first career save despite giving up two singles.
