Gonzalez, Wiesberger lead at Gleneagles

AUCHTERARDER, Scotland, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Ricardo Gonzalez and Bernd Wiesberger each shot 7-under-par 65 Thursday and share the first-round lead at the European Tour's stop at Gleneagles, Scotland.

Wiesberger was bogey-free through Thursday's play while Gonzalez combined seven birdies, an eagle and two bogeys for his 65.

Oliver Fisher, Rich Fisher, Mark Forster, Ignacio Garrido, Brett Rumford and Thongchai Jaidee are tied at 5-under 66 and five more players are at 4-under. A total of 80 players broke par Thursday.

Wiesberger starting at the 11th hole of the Gleneagles Hotel course, opened with a birdie. He added others at the 14th and 17th holes. A birdie at the third hole got him to 4-under and he closed with three consecutive birdies.

Gonzalez, also starting on 11, had a bogey at his first hole of the tournament but he had five birdies over the next seven holes. After a bogey at the par-4 first, he dropped in a 10-foot putt for eagle at the 516-yard, par-5 second hole. He also had birdies at Nos. 5 and 8.

The official name of the tournament is the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
