WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- American wild card Mardy Fish prevailed over Russian Evgeny Donskoy Sunday in opening-round play at the Winston-Salem Open.
Fish, a former world No. 7, needed three sets to get past Donskoy 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at Wake Forest University.

In other Day 1 action, Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez downed Slovakian Grega Zemlja 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 and Russian Alex Bogomolov Jr. dispatched Victor Hanescu of Romania, 6-3, 6-4.
Also moving on to the second round was Yen-Hsun Lu, who rolled over wild card Romain Bogaerts 6-1, 6-1, and Dutchman Robin Haase, who bested Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, 6-3, 6-3.
