MLB: Minnesota 4, Chicago White Sox 3

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Chris Herrmann's one-out single in the ninth drove in Doug Bernier from second Thursday to give Minnesota a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The Twins came back from a three-run deficit in the late innings to drive the White Sox deeper into the cellar of the American League Central. Chicago's 74 losses are the second most in the majors ahead of only Houston.

Joe Mauer's double followed by Justin Morneau's RBI single in the eighth lifted the Twins into a 3-3 tie and they produced the winning run in the ninth against Ramon Troncoso (1-4).

Trevor Plouffe, who began the Minnesota comeback with a fifth-inning homer, singled to open the ninth. He moved to second on a passed ball and Chris Colabello drew a walk.

Plouffe was erased at third on a fielder's choice grounder by Clete Thomas, after which Bernier came on to run for Colabello at second. Herrmann came through with his single to right to bring home Bernier.

Jared Burton (2-6) worked the top of the ninth to get the win.
