NFL: Philadelphia 14, Carolina 9

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Nick Foles ran 7 yards for a touchdown in the opening period Thursday and Philadelphia held Carolina to three field goals in downing the Panthers 14-9.

Foles was given the exhibition start and completed 6-of-8 passes for 53 yards. He drove the Eagles from their own 5-yard line to the Carolina 8 on the opening possession of the game, but was intercepted in the end zone to kill the march.

Michael Vick went 9-of-10 for 105 yards and was intercepted once.

LeSean McCoy scored the other Philadelphia touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second period.

Carolina's Cam Newton completed 8-of-17 for 112 yards and carried once for 5 yards.

Both the Eagles and Panthers are 1-1 in exhibition play.
