Two of Kansas City's hits came in the first inning, when Salvador Perez singled in Eric Hosmer, who had doubled. The second Kansas City run came as a result of two walks an error and a groundout in the fourth.

Justin Ruggiano drove in Adeiny Hechavarria, who had walked, in the Miami fourth. That was the only run the Marlins managed off Royals starter Ervin Santana even though he gave up eight hits and two walks over six innings.
