MLB: Cincinnati 2, Chicago Cubs 0

CHICAGO, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Mat Latos tossed eight scoreless innings and Brandon Phillips bashed a late home run Monday in the Cincinnati Reds' 2-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Latos (12-3) carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, eventually yielding six hits. The Reds right-hander didn't issue a walk while tossing 68-of-94 pitches for strikes, extending his unbeaten streak to five starts.

Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the ninth for his 28th save as Cincinnati reeled off its fifth victory in six contests in the first of a three-game series.

Phillips provided the game's only offense with a two-run homer in the seventh.

Chicago's Trevor Wood (7-9) was saddled with the loss, surrendering two runs on four hits over eight innings. He walked one and struck out five.
