Miller left the game and five relievers tried without success to hold the Dodgers in check. Most of the damage was done against Jake Westbrook (7-7), the third St. Louis pitcher who gave up nine runs on 13 hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Los Angeles scored six times in the second inning with Ethier contributing a run-scoring ground out and Schumaker driving in two with a single. Schumaker also had an RBI base hit in both the sixth and ninth innings while Ethier had a three-run double in the ninth.

The Dodgers won for the sixth time in seven games and have gone 16-3 since July 14.

Ricky Nolasco (8-9) did not give up an earned run in five innings to get the win. He struck out five and allowed seven hits.
