BLAINE, Minn., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Tom Pernice Jr. used birdies on the final two holes to edge a pair of competitors and secure a one-stroke victory Sunday at the 3M Championship.
Pernice's late surge gave him a final round of 4-under-par 68, finishing the tournament at 17-under-par 199 -- good for a one-stroke triumph over Jeff Sluman and Corey Pavin.
It was his second career Champions Tour victory and first since the 2009 SAS Championship.
Sluman charged into contention with a 10-under 62 at TPC Twin Cities, entering the clubhouse with the lead at 16-under only to see Pernice overcome his advantage.
He ended in a second-place tie with Pavin (66).
Sharing fourth at minus-14 were Jay Haas (65), Bart Bryant (67) and Rod Spittle (68).
Craig Stadler (65), Kenny Perry (67), Colin Montgomery (67) and Kirk Triplett (68) knotted for seventh at minus-13.
