MLS: Vancouver 1, Portland 1 (tie)

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Jordan Harvey scored on a header in the 69th minute Saturday, hoisting the Vancouver Whitecaps into a physical 1-1 draw with Portland.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Vancouver (9-7-6) got the equalizer when defender Harvey got his head on a Camilo Sanvezzo corner kick that eluded Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.

The Whitecaps, playing in game that saw a total of six yellow cards issued, lost midfielder Brad Rusin to a sprained right ankle after he got into a battle with Portland counterpart Diego Valeri.

Vancouver held onto the fifth and final Western Conference playoff spot at 33 points with the result.

Ryan Johnson scored on an assist from Valeri in the 49th minute for the third-place Timbers (8-3-11), who remained three points behind West leader Real Salt Lake.
