MLB: New York Yankees 3, Los Angeles Dodgers 0

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Lyle Overbay's RBI single broke a scoreless tie in the ninth Wednesday, leading to the New York Yankees' 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw and New York's Hiroki Kuroda both turned in dominating performances, but the Yankees finally broke through against Ronald Belisario in the ninth.

New York is 1-1 on its eight-game road trip while the Dodgers had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Belisario (4-6) issued a leadoff walk in the ninth, who was immediately erased on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Robinson Cano.

Cano moved to second on a ground out by Alfonso Soriano, after which Ichiro Suzuki was intentionally walked. Overbay followed with a single to center that brought home Cano and the Dodgers then suffered a miscue that allowed the Yankees to add two runs.

Both Suzuki and Overbay scored when a grounder by Jayson Nix was botched for an error by second baseman A.J. Ellis.

Boone Logan (3-2) worked the ninth inning in relief of Kuroda to get the win and Mariano Rivera struck out two in the ninth for his 34th save. It was the 642nd save of his career.
