MLB: Cleveland 3, Chicago White Sox 2

CLEVELAND, July 29 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi blasted a pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday, boosting the Cleveland Indians over the Chicago White Sox 3-2.

With the game tied 2-2 and Chicago's Ramon Troncoso (1-3) on the mound, Giambi came up to hit for Mark Reynolds leading off the frame and sent a pitch deep over the center-field fence for a walk-off game-winner.

The late clout made a winner of Chris Perez (3-1) who had tossed a scoreless top of the ninth as the Indians reeled off a fifth straight triumph.

Asdrubal Cabrera and Carlos Santana each provided an RBI for second-place Cleveland, which pulled to within 2 1/2 games of American League Central-leading Detroit.

Tribe starter Zach McAllister tossed seven innings of two-run ball while White Sox counterpart John Danks also yielded two runs over six full frames.

Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko each drove in a run for the White Sox, who dropped a fourth straight.
