Sorana Cirstea, Madison Keys take early victories at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif., July 23 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea and American teenager Madison Keys each posted an opening-round victory Monday at the Bank of the West Classic.

Cirstea needed just 1 hour, 16 minutes to dispatch Japan's Ayumi Morita, breezing to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph on the hard courts at Stanford University.

Eighteen-year-old Keys, meanwhile, also moved on with a quick 6-2, 6-2 victory over eighth-seeded Magdalena Rybarikova.

Italian Francesca Schiavone joined them in the second round thanks to a 7-5, 6-3 decision over American Mallory Burdette. She now goes on to face top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska.

American Nicole Gibbs, Olga Govortsova of Belarus and Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele also logged Day 1 wins.
