Brands gets rematch with Federer

GSTAAD, Switzerland, July 23 (UPI) -- Daniel Brands had a three-set win Tuesday that gave him another second-round match against top-seeded Roger Federer at the Swiss Open.

Brands defeated Marco Chiudinelli, like Federer a Swiss national, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Brands fired off 16 aces and only saw two breaks points in the match. He lost just 14 points in 13 games serving.

Federer, who was defeated by Federico Delbonis in last week's ATP semifinal in Hamburg, beat Brands in the second round of that tournament. Federer and other top four seeds received first-round byes in Gstaad.

Delbonis also won a first-round match Tuesday with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) decision over Thomaz Bellucci. Delbonis didn't lose his serve in the match.

No. 8 Roberto Bautista Agut, the only seeded player in action Tuesday, advanced on a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Henri Laaksonen, another Swiss. Bautista Agut needed just 54 minutes to finish off the win. He had three breaks in the first set and lost just five points on serve in the second.

Pablo Andujar, Robin Haase and Victor Hanescu all had first-round wins over qualifiers while Guillermo Garcia-Lopez beat Adrian Ungur 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-1 and Daniel Gimeno-Traver stopped Kenny De Schepper 6-4, 6-4.
