MLB: Boston 8, San Diego 2

BOSTON, July 4 (UPI) -- Jacobi Ellsbury had three hits, including a home run, and scored three runs Thursday to help the Boston Red Sox beat San Diego 8-2.

Boston starter Allen Webster (1-2) went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks to get his first Major League victory in Boston's three-game series sweep of the Padres.

Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz had two hits and two RBI each for the Red Sox, who got a solo home run from Brandon Snyder in their eighth win in their last nine games.

Chase Headley and Jesus Guzman each drove in a run for San Diego, which has lost six straight.

Padres' starter Eric Stults (6-7) gave up four runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Ellsbury ran his hitting streak to 14 games.
