MLB: Tampa Bay 8, Houston 0

HOUSTON, July 2 (UPI) -- David Price struck out 10 in his return from the disabled list and led the Tampa Bay Rays to an 8-0 whitewash of the Houston Astros Tuesday.

The break appeared to do Price (2-4) a lot of good as he held the Astros to three hits and did not walk a batter in seven innings.

Price, who won the American League Cy Young Award last season, struggled in his six starts prior to being sidelined May with a strained left triceps muscle. He cruised through the Houston lineup on a mere 70 pitches, 48 of which were strikes.

Desmond Jennings led the Rays offense with four RBI, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Yunel Escobar drove in a pair in the Rays' fourth consecutive win.

Houston lost their fifth consecutive game and have scored just five runs in the stretch. Carlos Corporan went 2-for-5 and the loss was pinned on Erik Bedard (3-4), who allowed four runs on six hits and six walks in 5 1/3 innings.
