He left with a 3-0 lead but the Rangers' bullpen faltered in the eighth inning.

Tanner Scheppers gave up a walk to Zack Cozart and allowed consecutive singles to Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips, loading the bases before exiting.

Neal Cotts came in and yielded sacrifice flies to Jay Bruce and Chris Heisey before Jason Frasor retired Todd Frazier on a fly ball to end the rally.

Joe Nathan then turned in a 1-2-3 ninth for his 27th save as the American League West-leading Rangers recorded their ninth victory in 11 games.

Elvis Andrus and Nelson Cruz each knocked in a run for Texas.
