Djokovic, Murray seem on Wimbledon collision cource

LONDON, June 30 (UPI) -- A week of early surprises at Wimbledon ended on a more expected note with world No. 1 Novak Djokovic taking a solid third-round win going into Sunday's off day.

The 127th Wimbledon Championships started with a stunner as Rafael Nadal, the hottest player in men's tennis going into the tournament, lost in the first round last Monday.

Two days later, defending champion Roger Federer, who was looking for a record eighth title at Wimbledon, was beaten.

Also Wednesday, injuries took out sixth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and No. 10 Marin Cilic.

Subsequent matches played more to form, however, and no other highly seeded players left the draw. Going into Wimbledon's second week there is Djokovic, who is yet to lose a set, and No. 2-seeded Andy Murray, who is also 9-0 in sets at the tournament, seemingly on a collision course in the final. That would be a rematch of the Australian Open last January, which Djokovic won in four sets.

Murray, who meets 20th-seeded Mikhail Youzhny in the fourth round, and Djokovic, who next faced No. 13 Tommy Haas, play back-to-back on Center Court Monday.

Djokovic's half of the draw also features fourth-ranked David Ferrer, who survived a five-set challenge Saturday and eighth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro in the same quarter. No. 7 Tomas Berdych is in Djokovic's quarter.

With the upsets and injuries, there are only two seeded players left in Murray's half of the draw -- Youzhny and No. 24 Jerzy Janowicz. There will be at least two unseeded players advancing to the quarterfinals in the lower have of the bracket.

Wimbledon is to wrap up next Sunday with the men's single final.
