FALL RIVER, Mass., June 27 (UPI) -- A judge denied bail for Aaron Hernandez, accused of murder in Massachusetts, as media reports said the former NFL star is being investigated in more slayings.

Hernandez was charged with murder and ordered held without bail Wednesday in the June 17 slaying of his friend Odin Lloyd, 27, a semipro football player. During a hearing Thursday in Fall River (Mass.) Superior Court, his attorney requested bail, arguing Hernandez is not a flight risk.

Superior Court Judge Renee Dupuis noted the case against Hernandez, 23, is "circumstantial, to be sure, but a very, very strong circumstantial case."

She said if what prosecutors allege is true, then Hernandez "in a cold-blooded fashion killed a person because that person disrespected him."

ABC News reported Thursday police are investigating Hernandez in the death of two men in a July 2012 drive-by shooting in Boston.

Daniel Jorge Correia de Abreu, 29, and Safiro Teixeira Furtado, 28, both of Dorchester, Mass., were killed and a third man was wounded in the shooting hours after Hernandez was involved in an altercation in a nightclub, ABC News reported.

Massachusetts State Police who went to Hernandez's North Attleborough home Thursday told ABC they were not there to search for further evidence in the killing of Lloyd.

"This is different," a detective said.

Hernandez entered a not guilty plea Wednesday at his arraignment, after prosecutors presented extensive evidence they said showed he "orchestrated" Lloyd's killing and took steps to conceal it.

The New England Patriots released Hernandez following his arrest Wednesday.

Hernandez was a fourth-round pick by the Patriots in 2010. He had 79 catches for 910 yards and seven touchdowns in 2011 when he was selected for the Pro Bowl. Injuries limited his play to 10 games last season when he caught 51 passes for 483 yards and five touchdowns.
