New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was taken out of his home in handcuffs Wednesday, more than a week after a car rented in his name was tied to the homicide of Odin Lloyd. Nine plainclothes police officers arrived at Hernandez's house around 9 a.m. Wednesday. Police entered the North Attleborough, Mass., home when Hernandez came to the door shirtless. Moments later, they came out with Hernandez in handcuffs, a shirt pulled over his arms.

He was cut by the Patriots shortly thereafter. State police said they will not release the charge Hernandez faces until it is presented in court.
"Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation," the team said in a statement.
An arrest warrant for Hernandez was reportedly written up June 21 for obstruction of justice, but was not issued. The warrant came after police discovered Hernandez had intentionally destroyed his cell phone and home security system.
Lloyd, a semi-pro football player, was found dead with gunshot wounds in an industrial park near Hernandez's house on June 17. He was 27. Hernandez has not been named as a suspect, but has not been ruled out.
Officials ruled the death a homicide but have not cited the cause of death. Hernandez has been a key figure in the investigation, and police have searched his house and the area around it several times since Lloyd's body was found.
