PORTLAND, Ore., June 23 (UPI) -- Will Johnson provided a goal and an assist Sunday and the Portland Timbers extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games with a 3-0 defeat of Colorado.
Johnson assisted on a Frederic Piquionne tally in the 12th minute, putting the Timbers ahead to stay.
Piquionne returned the favor in the 45th minute, finding Johnson with a pass at the top of the box that the Portland midfielder chipped to himself, then settled onto his left foot for a volley past goalkeeper Clinton Irwin.
Ryan Johnson added a late score and Rodney Wallace assisted on all three goals for the Timbers (7-1-9), who pulled into a first-place tie with Real Salt Lake atop the Western Division at 30 points.
Portland hasn't lost since its second game of the season -- a March 9 defeat at the hands of Montreal.
The seventh-place Rapids dropped to 5-7-5.
