PHOENIX, June 23 (UPI) -- Mat Latos struck out 13 over 7 2/3 innings and the Cincinnati Reds socked two first-inning homers Sunday in their 4-2 win over Arizona.
Latos (7-1) matched a career high with his strikeout total while dominating the D-backs. The right-hander allowed a single run while yielding six hits and two walks in snapping a personal two-start winless streak.
Aroldis Chapman notched his 19th save despite a shaky ninth in which he allowed a run on two hits as the Reds avoided a three-game sweep.
Shin-Soo Choo led off the game with a home run and Brandon Phillips added a two-run shot later in the frame, giving the Reds all the offense they would need.
D-backs starter Randall Delgado (0-1) was tagged for four runs (three earned) on six hits in a five-inning effort.
Miguel Montero and Wil Nieves each drove in a run for Arizona.
