American 2-year-old notches Royal Ascot win

ASCOT, England, June 20 (UPI) -- No Nay Never, representing a small American invading force, won Thursday's Group 2 Norfolk Stakes for 2-year-olds at Royal Ascot.

Trained by Wesley Ward and ridden by Joel Rosario, No Nay Never was prominent throughout the race after a bit of trouble at the start. The Scat Daddy colt appeared to hit the gate, but recovered quickly and was along in time to win by 1 length over the favorite, Irish-trained Coach House.

Wind Fire, the only filly in the field, finished third.

No Nay Never got the 5 furlongs in a quick 58.8 seconds over turf rated firm -- a course-record time for a 2-year-old.

No Nay Never also won his only previous start, a maiden race over the Keeneland all-weather course. Ward scored his third Royal Ascot victory, following two wins with juveniles in 2009.
