S'HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 19 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Roberta Vinci fell by the wayside at the grass-court Topshelf Open Wednesday after a one-sided, second-round defeat at the hands of Simona Halep.
The Romanian, who notched her first career victory last week in Nuremberg, Germany, stayed hot by routing the Italian defending champ 6-0, 6-1 at Autotron Rosmalen in the Netherlands.
Others seeds, however, fared better Wednesday.
No. 2 Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova rallied from a first-set loss to get past Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. She'll next face Ukrainian lucky loser Lesia Tsurenko.
Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium overcame Dutch wild card Michaella Krajicek 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3).
Spanish qualifier Garbine Muguruza also moved on to the quarterfinals with a victory.
