Li Na advances in walkover, Caroline Wozniacki logs Eastbourne win

EASTBOURNE, England, June 19 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Li Na advanced in a walkover and No. 5 Caroline Wozniacki also gained the quarterfinals with a win Wednesday at the Aegon International.

China's Li, a former French Open winner, was set to take on Marion Bartoli of France, but the former Wimbledon runner-up had to withdraw due to a viral infection.

That sent Li on to the quarters to face Russian Elena Vesnina, who ousted Briton Heather Watson 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 on Day 3 of the grass-court Wimbledon tune-up.

Denmark's Wozniacki, meanwhile, cruised past British crowd favorite Laura Robson 6-4, 6-4. Her next foe will be Russian Ekaterina Makarova, who pulled off a 6-3, 6-4 upset of third-seeded German Angelique Kerber.

The news wasn't as good for former Wimbledon titlist and 2011 Eastbourne runner-up Petra Kvitova, however. She was upended by Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

No. 6 Maria Kirilenko of Russia got past British wild card Elena Baltacha 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, while American qualifier Jamie Hampton and Czech Lucie Safarova also moved on with second-round wins.
