Ivan Dodig sends Milos Raonic packing in Eastbourne upset

EASTBOURNE, England, June 19 (UPI) -- Croatia's Ivan Dodig sent top-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic packing Wednesday with a second-round upset at the grass-court Aegon International.

Dodig handed the big-serving world No. 15 a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) defeat on the third day of play Wimbledon tune-up event in Eastbourne, England.

The Croatian will next face No. 8 Fabio Fognini, who rallied for a 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 6-2 victory over Slovak Martin Klizan.

Faring better was second-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon, who wiggled past British wild card Kyle Edmund with a pair of tiebreaks in a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3) decision.

Other seeds, however, were also swept out in upsets.

No. 3 German Philipp Kohlschreiber fell to Czech Radek Stepanek 7-5, 6-3 and fourth-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco was upended by Spain's Feliciano Lopez 6-4, 6-4.

Also Wednesday, No. 7 Andreas Seppi got past American qualifier Ryan Harrison while Spain's Fernando Verdasco and Australian Bernard Tomic also posted victories.
