MLB: San Diego 3, Atlanta 2

SAN DIEGO, June 12 (UPI) -- Chase Headly homered and Andrew Cashner turned in a solid eight-inning start that carried the San Diego Padres past the Atlanta Braves 3-2 Tuesday.

Cashner (5-3) held the visiting Braves to a pair of runs on six hits and one walk before turning the game over to Joe Thatcher and then Luke Gregerson, who secured the final out of the game and is third save of the season.

Nick Hundley and Carlos Quentin both drove in a run for the Padres, who have won five of their last seven games. Quentin's RBI single in the third inning sent Everth Cabrera in from third base with what proved to be the decisive run.

Freddie Freeman had an RBI for the Braves. Tim Hudson (4-6) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits and seven strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
