MLB: Texas 3, Kansas City 1

ARLINGTON, Texas, June 2 (UPI) -- Jurickson Profar smacked a tie-breaking homer in the eighth inning Sunday and the Texas Rangers went on to post a 3-1 victory over Kansas City.

The Royals, trailing 1-0 since the first, forged a tie in the top of the eighth when Eric Hosmer's RBI groundout sent home Alex Gordon.

But Profar's blast off J.C. Gutierrez (0-1) in the next half-inning put Texas back on top.

David Murphy later added an RBI single for an insurance run as the American League West-leading Rangers took the rubber match of a three-game series.

Tanner Scheppers (4-0) earned the victory after starter Yu Darvish had blanked the Royals on three hits over seven innings.

Kansas City's Ervin Santana also pitched well in a no-decision, yielding just one unearned run on three hits in seven frames.
