CLEVELAND, June 1 (UPI) -- James Loney hit a pair of home runs -- one Friday night, one early Saturday -- boosting the Tampa Bay Rays to a 9-2 win over the Cleveland Indians.
Loney hit the second of Tampa Bay's two home runs in a five-run third inning and added another in the eighth in a game marked by nearly 5 hours of rain delays. The game ended at about 3 a.m., about 10 hours before the start of Saturday's scheduled game.
It was the Rays' sixth consecutive win.
Four Tampa Bay pitchers combined for a one-hitter with Jamey Wright (1-1) getting the win while Cesar Ramos pitched three inning for his first major league save.
The first 12 Cleveland batters were retired before Nick Swisher led off the fifth with a walk. Mark Reynolds reached on an error and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Yan Gomes delivered a sacrifice fly and Ryan Raburn drove in Reynolds with a single -- the only Indians hit.
Matt Joyce and Loney hit two-run home runs in Tampa Bay's five-run third that handed the loss to Scott Barnes (0-1). Loney made the score 6-2 with his eighth-inning home run and Tampa Bay strung together five hits in a six-batter span in the ninth for the final three runs.
