MLB: Boston 9, Philadelphia 2

PHILADELPHIA, May 30 (UPI) -- Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a hand in Boston's big first and ninth innings Thursday and the Red Sox ended a two-game skid by defeating Philadelphia 9-2.

Saltalamacchia doubled home two runs in a four-run first and another double in the ninth brought in one of the three runs in that inning.

Boston produced 14 hits and four relievers combined to give up two hits over the final four frames.

Franklin Morales (1-0) made his season debut for the Red Sox after being activated from the disabled list. It was only the 25th start in a seven-year career spent primarily in the bullpen.

Morales gave up two runs on four hits in five innings and, after throwing 79 pitches, turned things over to a succession of Boston relievers.

Jonathan Pettibone (3-1) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in five innings.
