Colorado University AD Mike Bohn resigns

BOULDER, Colo., May 28 (UPI) -- Colorado University Chancellor Philip DiStefano accepted the resignation of Athletic Director Mike Bohn Tuesday, effective June 3.

Bohn had been granted a 5-year contract extension two years ago that secured his position with the school until 2017. Bohn didn't speak publicly about the announcement, which was made through a statement the school released.

Most notably, Bohn oversaw Colorado's move from the Big 12 to the Pac-12. He also recently announced a $50 million fundraising effort to upgrade athletic facilities at the school.

"Mike Bohn led CU-Boulder athletics in a time of great transition and change," DiStefano said. "We are grateful to him for his vision, passion and commitment, and for his key role in revitalizing men's and women's basketball, helping us to join the Pac-12 Conference, and in taking important steps to upgrade athletic facilities. We wish him well."

Bohn is a Boulder, Colo., native who was first named to the post in April 2005. He previously held the athletic director position at San Diego State University and was a graduate of the University of Kansas, where he played baseball.
