CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 27 (UPI) -- Kevin Harvick held off defending champ Kasey Kahne down the stretch Sunday, winning the accident-marred Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Harvick, after pitting for two tires during a debris caution with 14 laps remaining, won the restart and outpaced Kahne in a 10-lap shootout to record his second Sprint Cup victory of the year.
Harvick, who also won in April at Richmond for Richard Childress Racing, bested Kahne by 1.5 seconds for his 22nd overall career series victory and his second at Charlotte.
Kurt Busch shook off mechanical problems early in the race to finish third, while pole-sitter Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano completed the Top 5.
The race was delayed for nearly 30 minutes when a nylon rope that supported an overhead television camera broke and fell onto the track, injuring 10 fans and damaging several cars.
Racetrack officials said 10 fans were hurt, including three who were hospitalized for further evaluation.
The rope also damaged the right front side of then-leader Kyle Busch's car, while Marcos Ambrose sustained a severed a brake line and Mark Martin also sustained some damage, USA Today reported.
