Bowie Young, Cavalleri share LPGA lead

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas, May 24 (UPI) -- Heather Bowie Young and Silvia Cavalleri shared the lead Friday when darkness suspended play in the weather-disrupted Pure Silk-Bahamas Classic.

LPGA Tour officials made the unusual decision to play at least two rounds of the event on a golf course shortened to 12 holes because of the flooding caused by a foot of rain on Tuesday.

Par for the 12 holes being used at the Ocean Club course was listed at 45 and both Young and Cavalleri shot a 39.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be held over 72 holes, but now officials hope to play two rounds over the 12-hole course and then be able to use all 18 holes for the final round on Sunday.

Play was backed up by a weather delay Friday and there was not enough daylight to complete the round. The opening round will be concluded Saturday with the second round to follow.

Anna Nordqvist, Paola Moreno, Lisa McCloskey and Austin Ernst all shot a 40 to share third place. Among those at 41 were Suzann Pettersen and Brittany Lang.
