INDIANAPOLIS, May 14 (UPI) -- Former WNBA player Tully Bevilaqua said she and her partner decided to get married in Indiana even though same-sex marriage is not legal there.
Tully and Lindsay Bevilaqua tied the knot at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis on May 4, the Indianapolis Star reported.
"We chose to get married in front of our families, friends and our children to share our commitment in a public way," Tully said. "We wanted to be married in our home. In our eyes, it's legal, and we've made a commitment to each other with our children. We just have to wait for that piece of paper. Obviously, if you go out of state, where it's legal, it doesn't mean anything in Indiana."
Tully Bevilaqua, 40, born in Australia, played with the Indiana Fever in the Women's National Basketball Association from 2005 to 2010 and more recently with the San Antonio Silver Stars. She has also played with several Australian teams, most recently the West Coast Waves.
