MLB: Chicago Cubs 2, Washington 1

WASHINGTON, May 12 (UPI) -- Starlin Castro's RBI single in the eighth produced a tie and the Chicago Cubs went ahead on a ninth-inning error Sunday in their 2-1 win over Washington.

Trailing 1-0 since the first inning, the Cubs began a rally in the eighth when Dioner Navarro led off with a single against Drew Storen.

Pinch-runner Travis Wood went to second on Darwin Barney's sacrifice, claimed third on an out and scored when Castro lifted a single to shallow center field.

Then in the ninth against Rafael Soriano (0-1), Alfonso Soriano and pinch-hitter Julio Borbon each singled with none out. The pair were sent on a double-steal and Soriano scored when Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki fired the ball past third base for an error.

James Russell (1-0) earned the decision and Kevin Gregg picked up his sixth save for the Cubs, who took the rubber match of a three-game series.
