Backpacks banned at finish of Philadelphia run

PHILADELPHIA, May 2 (UPI) -- People planning to watch Philadelphia's Broad Street Run have been warned backpacks and bags have been banned from the finish line.

The 10-mile race scheduled for Sunday ends at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Mayor Michael Nutter said Wednesday no one will be able to bring backpacks or bags into the yard, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.

Nutter suggested that everyone travel light Sunday even though backpacks and bags will be allowed on the rest of the course. He said security guards will provide clear plastic bags to people who need something to hold their stuff.

The precautions follow the deadly bombing April 15 at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Runners in Philadelphia will be given "From Philly to Boston with love" stickers.
