DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., April 30 (UPI) -- Two Richard Childress Racing crew members were fined and suspended by NASCAR Tuesday following an incident at Richmond International Raceway.
Michael Scearce and Thomas Costello, members of driver Brian Scott's No. 2 Nationwide Series team, were each suspended for the next four races and fined $15,000, the sanctioning body announced.
The penalties came after the pair were arrested and charged with assault in connection with an altercation after Friday's ToyotaCare 250 Nationwide event at the track.
Henrico County, Va., Police said Scearce, 50, and Costello, 35, were arrested after a "physical altercation" in the infield area of the raceway.
Scearce, of Mount Ulla, N.C., was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault, while Costello, of Kannapolis, N.C., was charged with one misdemeanor count of assault, the Richmond (Va.) Times-Union reported.
The pair were released early Saturday.
Scott, rival driver Nelson Piquet Jr. and their crews got into an altercation on pit row following the race.
Piquet accused Scott of "door-banging" him during the cool-down lap.
