NHL: Detroit 3, Dallas 0

DALLAS, April 28 (UPI) -- Henrik Zetterberg netted a pair of goals and added an assist Saturday, enabling the Detroit Red Wings to clinch a playoff spot with a 3-0 defeat of Dallas.

Jonathan Ericsson added a goal and Jimmy Howard came up with 17 saves for his fifth shutout of season as the Red Wings closed out the regular season with a fourth straight win and claimed the seventh seed in the Western Conference.

Detroit needed a single point Saturday to ensure its 22nd consecutive post-season appearance. The Red Wings (24-16-8) go on to face second-seeded Anaheim.

Richard Bachman turned aside 34 shots for Dallas, which missed the playoffs with a 22-22-4 mark.
