NHL: Detroit 5, Nashville 2

DETROIT, April 25 (UPI) -- Johan Franzen and Pavel Datsyuk both scored on the power play in a three-goal Detroit second period Thursday, pushing the Red Wings past Nashville 5-2.

Detroit moved into the No. 7 position in the Western Conference playoff race, but with one game left has yet to clinch a post-season berth. The Red Wings have not missed the playoffs since 1990.

The Red Wings have 54 points while both Columbus and Minnesota have 53. Both Detroit and Columbus have a game remaining while Minnesota has two left.

Detroit was facing a 2-1 deficit heading into the second period, but Franzen tied it 1:01 deep into the middle frame and Patrick Eaves put the Red Wings in front less than 3 minutes later.

Datsyuk delivered his 15th of the season with 47 seconds to go in the period and Justin Abdelkader added a goal late in the third.

Jimmy Howard picked up the win with 20 saves. Chris Mason allowed five goals on 38 shots.
