MLB: Philadelphia 7, St. Louis 3

PHILADELPHIA, April 21 (UPI) -- Philadelphia's Erik Kratz cracked a three-run homer Sunday and the Phillies used a big eighth inning to spank St. Louis 7-3.

The Phillies had tied the game in the seventh when Kratz led off with a single, chasing Cardinals starter Jake Westbrook, and Laynce Nix followed with an RBI double off Fernando Salas.

They then erupted for four more in the eighth.

Michael Young, Domonic Brown and Ben Revere collected consecutive singles against Mitchell Boggs (0-2) to grab the lead and Kratz then smashed a pitch deep into the left field stands to break the contest open.

Jimmy Rollins went 3-for-5 with a run scored and Mike Adams (1-1) was credited with the win as the Phillies earned a split in their their four-game set with the Cards.

Matt Carpenter socked a solo homer while Allen Craig and David Freese each provided an RBI for St. Louis.
