MLB: Pittsburgh 6, Atlanta 0

PITTSBURGH, April 19 (UPI) -- Wandy Rodriguez allowed a lone hit over seven innings Friday and faced the minimum number of batters in carrying Pittsburgh to a 6-0 win over Atlanta.

Jason Heyward was the only Atlanta batter to reach base against Rodriguez (2-0), doing so with a one-out single in the fourth. Justin Upton then grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Mark Melancon worked the eighth for the Pirates and Vin Mazzaro pitched the ninth.

Pittsburgh scored three times in both the second and fifth innings, the offense highlighted by a two-run homer from Pedro Alvarez that opened the scoring. Jose Tabata added an RBI double in the second and Garrett Jones contributed a two-run single in the fifth.

Tim Hudson (2-1) suffered the loss, giving up six runs on nine hits in four-plus innings.
