BOSTON, April 13 (UPI) -- High-scoring Swedish forward Carl Soderberg has signed a three-year contract with the Boston Bruins, the team announced Saturday.
Soderberg, 27, who was drafted by St. Louis in the second round in 2004, has never played in the NHL. Instead, he has starred in the Swedish Elite League, racking up 31 goals and 29 assists over 54 games this season with Linkoping HC.
The Bruins obtained his rights in a 2007 trade for exchange for goaltender Hannu Toivonen, and have now signed him for $1 million per year.
Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli said adding Soderberg before the playoffs is a key move for the team.
"We are fortunate to get a player like Carl at this stage of the season," he said. "[He] is a big, strong two-way center who can also play wing. We look forward to him joining our team this week."
