Wawrinka, Anderson advance at Moroccan Grand Prix

CASABLANCA, Morocco, April 12 (UPI) -- Top seed Stanislas Wawrinka and second-seeded Kevin Anderson won their quarterfinal matches Friday at the Moroccan Grand Prix tennis event.

Wawrinka, of Switzerland -- the 2010 Casablanca champion -- dropped Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-1, 6-2 in 59 minutes to advance to a semifinal match against Tommy Robredo. The Spaniard beat fourth-seeded Benoit Paire of France 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-0 Friday in 1 hour, 50 minutes.

Anderson, of South Africa, was a 6-4, 6-4 winner Friday over eighth-seeded Slovenian Grega Zemlja 6-4, 6-4, advancing to a semifinal match against third-seeded Slovak Martin Klizan -- a 7-5, 6-1 winner over seventh-seeded Dutchman Robin Haase.
